Company History
PanGlobal Berhad (“PGB”) was incorporated in Malaysia on 14 August 1962 under the Companies Ordinances, 1940-1946 as a private limited company under the name of Allied Malayan Development Ltd. The Company was converted into a public company on 14 June 1969 and renamed as Allied Malayan Development Berhad.
On 25 February 1974, the ordinary shares of PGB were listed on the Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad ("BMSB"). The Company changed its name to Global Equities Berhad on 2 August 1986 and subsequently on 9 December 1987 to PanGlobal Equities Berhad. It adopted its present name on 28 November 1995.
The principal activity of PGB upon incorporation was that of housing development. In 1966, the Company divested its housing development activities and ventured into towel and yarn manufacturing. Over the years, the Company diversified into property development, computers and insurance.
In 1994 and 1995, the Company undertook corporate restructuring exercises which involved the acquisition of Limbang Trading (Limbang) Sdn Bhd, Global Minerals (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, 10 pieces of landed properties situated in Johor Bahru and disposal of PanGlobal Textile Bhd, PanGlobal Development Sdn Bhd and PanGlobal Sistemaju Sdn Bhd.
In April 1997, the Company acquired 26.67% of the issued and paid-up capital of Econstates Berhad and disposed off all its interest on 31 December 1999.
The Company and certain subsidiary companies are in the process of obtaining approvals to proceed with a scheme of debt arrangement involving its financial institution creditors under Section 176 of the Companies Act, 1965.
On 1 February 2009, PanGlobal Insurance Berhad transferred its general insurance business to Tokio Marine Insurans (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd as part of the restructuring scheme. For further details on the Scheme and announcements please visit www.bursamalaysia.com.my.
Currently, PGB is principally an investment holding company. The principal activities of its subsidiaries include extraction of logs, sawmilling and manufacturing of veneer, coal mining, property investment, rental of office and commercial premises and operator of hotel suites.
